Assabet Wildlife Refuge and back to Sherman’s Bridge

I took a walk around the loop at the Assabet Wildlife Refuge. It was a day when I just couldn’t bear to be at home, and wanted to move and explore, and this is a spot I’ve been shamefully remiss in not yet exploring. It’s a strange, post apocalyptic world out there. First, there’s the web of stone walls that once marked plot boundaries when the land belonged to agriculture. Then there are the ammunition bunkers built there in the second world war, and the tracks that once brought the train from Boston. It’s just odd to be walking along in a thick wood and suddenly realize that just beneath the topsoil is a layer of broken asphalt.

There are many compositions out there, and were I more skilled I might have captured more of them the first time. As it is, I’ll be content with these.

10mm (Sony E 10 – 18) 1/60 sec f/4 ISO 100

That might have been the end of my day, but that evening the clouds cleared out and the moon came out, so I took Ellis out with me to Sherman’s bridge for some night photography. What’s clear to me from the experience is that I have a lot to learn about low light photography. But I did manage to capture these, which I liked.
