A morning at Sherman’s Bridge Sudbury, MA

The apps promised good cloud this morning so I was up at 4 and out by 4:30. I’ve been wanting to get this scene in good light, and I thought this was my opportunity. Indeed, I think this is a solid showing. This overlook at Great Meadows in Sudbury seemed like the best place to start, as the horizon is low enough and the view is expansive enough that the lighting drama arrives early, giving me time to take good shots and still have time to relocate for another round at Sherman’s bridge, just a bit further down the road.

10mm (Sony E 10 – 18) 1/6 sec f/9.0 ISO 200

I just love the foreground here but it’s difficult to get the shot I want because I’m so elevated on the platform. I suppose I could sneak down in my dry pants, but this is a delicate ecosystem and it’s best to stay on demarcated paths. I’ll have to settle for imagining the shot this could have been.

18mm (Sony E 18 – 135) 1/13 sec f/9.0 ISO 200

Once the sun had risen a bit I headed back to Sherman’s Bridge. This scene is a bit more enclosed, so the sun needs to be higher to get the same drama.

10mm (Sony E 10 – 18) 1/320 ISO 100

This is pretty much the same shot as the one I took the afternoon previous. I’m not sure which of these I like better. Maybe I like the log better, as it looks a bit less HDR.
