REFRACTIONARY

I’ve been told to stop putting my subjects at the center of the frame. In the first of these, I really like that the tree is centered. In the second, I feel that the image is out of balance. I have a crop of it somewhere… when I find it I’ll add it below for comparison. Nevertheless, when all is said and done, these images are some of my favorites so far. Also, they were the first I ever took with my camera that weren’t just practice shots in my living room.

So here’s another couple of crops of the first tree. It’s interesting to me that the first of these alternate crops really dials up the drama, while the second crop feels more contemplative due to the negative space to either side of it.
